Brazilian Culture
Anyone considering property investing in Brazil can't fail to be captivated by the Brazilian culture. Brazil is a unique place, with unique people. There's far more to the country than football, beaches and bikinis.
Brazil is a unique melting pot with a buzzing culture. It's a wonderful mix-up of religion, heritage, celebrations and more. Brazil is home to a whole range of different cultures, with people from Portugal, the US, Spain, Germany and Italy calling the South American country home.
It all began thousands of years ago when the Native American Indians came to Brazil and then, a few centuries back, the first Portuguese, whose language remains the official tongue of Brazil.
What about religion in Brazil? There are many faiths, but Catholicism is the main one. People of different religious persuasions live together in harmony in Brazil, unlike many other countries. Arguably more important than faith to the Brazilians is family – families dine together, and tend to stay together, just like in Spain.
With a range of cultures all coming together, it's no surprise to find so many celebrations and festivals in Brazil. Based around singing, dancing and regional signature food, these events include the famous Carnival.
Brazil's culture also takes in indigenous populations in rural areas who talk in a variety of dialects and even languages, some of which are unique. They live off the land and have only rare dealings with the rest of the world. Their heritage is protected by the Brazilian government.
No critique of culture for those interested in property investing in Brazil would be complete without mentioning football. Whilst England invented the sport, it was Brazil that took it forward as the 'beautiful game', with the 1970 World Cup-winning squad of Pele, Jairzinho and Rivelino arguably the finest ever assembled.
Five times winners of the World Cup, Brazil will host the competition in 2014. The people's exuberant love of the game can be seen every day in the barefoot beach games that dominate the country.
Brazil is a bubbling pot of infectious energy, with a colourful culture that makes the place a great tourist destination and a fine prospect for property investing.
